Tutoring

This program will be individualized based on need. Qualified tutors are on hand to provide the one on one instruction for all age groups.

Introduction To Tutoring

There are a variety of reasons why students come to Alternative Connections. Many are in need of remediation, often working several years below grade level and unable to keep up their work in school. Some have significant learning issues that the mainstream schools cannot address. Some have behavioral or attentional problems that have been unsuccessfully treated with drugs. We encourage a drug free, holistic approach. Others are in need of an accelerated or a broader range of educational experiences.

Our tutors take pride in working successfully with all types of students and work with care and flexibility to meet each student'sneeds. The goal is to help each student recognize and work with their strengths, develop compensatory strategies, when necessary, and build up weaknesses to the best of their ability.

Math And Science

Most math courses in school focus on practicing techniques and procedures, but math is really much more than this. Our approach emphasizes the concepts behind mathematical reasoning, building on simple models that serve as a conceptual base for all higher mathematics.

Learning styles vary with individuals, and the one size fits all approach of schools can be supplemented in many ways to encourage educational success. Alternative Connections offers various programs to help the child with learning issues, or the gifted child who doesn't want to sit in school for twelve years.

A competent and friendly instructor/tutor can work one on one, or in small groups, to guide the student through remedial work or through new material. The goal of all our tutoring is that the student should develop competence in a subject and confidence in his or her own ability.
